The positive circle of life
Good day, good day readers and followers. The world spins around on energy, postive energy keeps it spinning forward with an electricity that brightens the world. Every once in a while there are instances, occurrences that let all of us know that we did the right thing somewhere. I've long said that small things aggregate, amalgamate to be big things. Sometimes, in small places these little things result in a smile. Remember, sometimes a smile can be the diffence in a good day and bad day to many.
On Saturday as I was on my way home from the winning soccer game for the Philadelphia Union soccer club. I stopped in the local pub. This isn't just any local barroom, but the one that sponsored the team for which I played for several years and the club for which I coached for even more! The current owner is one of my former teammates. A lot of the "kids" that we coached hang out there now that they became of legal age.
Saturday, when I entered the pub on my way home from the match it was for one celebratory beer. About five feet inside the door a young lady popped to her feet and greeted me. Caitlyn was, as I recall, one of the youngest players on the last travel team that I coached. I was their head coach for four years and helped when/where I could for a fifth. Cait is 21. Answerman is O-L-D. Cait greeted me happily and with high energy- she had volunteered to coach at our old intramural club. Great kid, great player with a wonderful family.
I heard "COACH!" (my third fave title behind Dad & Pops). Cait stood in front of me and said- without taking a breath "Coach, I saw your name on the Under 10 coaching list...I volunteered to coach, meaning as an assistant, and then they gave me a team and said I was a head coach. I don't know where to begin and you were such a great coach that I wanted to e-mail you and see if you would help me.???"
Mentorship is in short supply, volunteers even more so. I am honored and I am humbled to have a prodigy become a coach. I am further honored and humbled to mentor Caitlyn as a coach. There are a dearth of volunteers in this world - for anything. There's a dearth of capable athletic coaches. Our township got a gem at the age of only 21. This kid really get it. The "it factor," which is to understand what the kids need and want to feel successful. The added positive for me was hearing my onetime player say how much she appreciated the manner in which I coached.
The Answerman says "Positive energy come from many places. Always remember that the energy you put out to those around you, both the youth and adults will come back like a boomerang. If it's positive then the return will be as well. Do your best to teach and tell tales in a positive manner - the soulful return is bountiful."
Be well,
