A word or more on "More than Happy"

Good day readers, here we are in the middle of July, in the middle of the summer heat.  We are suffering, in this part of the USA from not just poor air quality, but dangerous air quality.  Bad Canadian smoke from wildfires are to blame.  As an asthma sufferer, that doesn't make me happy.  I like the outdoors.  We had an air quality rating of "purple," which is worse than red.  I didn't know that was a thing.  Apparently you next go to Maroon and that is pretty much where wildlife starts dying and falling out of the sky and the trees like iguanas in Florida when the temperature goes under 50'.  WTF Canada?  Give us your beer and your bacon.  Keep your smoke, eh?

It all makes me less than happy.  Maybe a bit melancholy, perhaps upset, a dash disappointed, or immeasurably miserable.  Why?  Why Answerman, are you so disconsolate and dejected?  Well, I don't like smoke for one, as mentioned, I like the outdoors for two and really number three, I just want to make point that I'm exhausted from people stating that they are "more than happy." So I purposely went in the other direction for the sole reason of gaining attention and thank you, as usual to Merriam-Webster's.

I was on more than one business call last week where a vendor stated that they are "more than happy" to do this or that, brush the dog or walk the cat, more than happy to clean your car or break up with your dude if his name is Pat...or whatever.  They said it so many times I thought -Shut Up!! What is that anyway?  Really?  Are you joyously joyful? (don't go there with me...there is no Joy, so there is no joy) or merely merry?  Maybe merry is just being happy as a steady-state of being blissful.

Is jovial less than happy, happy or the much sought after More-than-Happy?  What about being blissful?  No that's just about being thankful and happy according to Webster's, and they reference a cat there too (you can look it up).   You can be properly pleased and solemnly satisfied and you're still not More-than-Happy.  We were talking about business technology functions so I don't think that would make anyone ecstatic.  Webster's describes that as "experiencing  or marked by overwhelming usually pleasurable emotion."  Yeah, that's definitely more than happy. However, getting a Electronic Data Interface (EDI) to work properly ain't getting anyone to ecstasy folks.  Really, come on people, calm down.

An EDI working most likely will just make the boring business folks less than thrilled and probably thoughtfully thankful.  That's all.  We weren't breaking the speed of sound, curing Cholera, or winning the World Cup.  Nobody is throwing a parade for an EDI or any other business function, just be properly pleased that whatever, is doing what it's supposed to be doing. You can be graciously grateful that the information is going where it should be going- but there's not going to be Champagne corks popping because your insurance bill got paid.  Stop.  Just stop.

The Answerman says "There's no euphoria in getting every day boring stuff to work.  We cannot be non-stop More-Than-Happy or the most gratifying moments in life would be underappreciated.  Save your jubilation for the moments that are truly worthy of being exuberant.  If my Philadelphia Flyer's can win another Stanley Cup in my lifetime then I would be rightfully rapturous, which is definitely More than F'ing Happy! If you got a web portal up and running, meh, so what... just be glad.

Be Good, Be Safe,

Answerman
